How is the job market for Assessments/Psychometrics in Psychology?

I'm currently in a PhD program in NYC for Clinical Psychology and I'm interested in doing assessments once I finish school. I'm hoping people who are in the field can tell me about their experiences. Is this a good money-making business? Do insurance companies cover this type of expense? What suggestions do you have?

Answer:
I used to work for a private practice that did primarily assessment and they were always busy. People sometimes had to wait 3 months to be seen. There seems to be a big market for it. We did assessments for disability determination (mental basis), custody evaluation, learning disabilities, ADHD (for IEP purposes and the school), and treatment recommendations (for people already in therapy). We charged about $1000 for the entire process, including report and feedback session, but it is not unheard of for some people to charge upwards of $2000 to $3000.
Most insurance companies will cover it, with the exception of anything legal (custody evals) and learning disabilities.
I think once you get started and word of mouth spreads, you'll be fine. You also have to be licensed first. Starting up will be the difficult part because you will have to purchase test materials and forms, which could easily run you about $10,000.
