And don't say 'stupid' or 'dumb' please. There is a psychological word or term for a person's inability to apply learned behavior to separate but similiar situations, but I can't remember it. For example, a person who learns to wipe their feet when they enter their own home, but doesn't know to do it at someone else's (no, it's not 'disrepect'). Or, also for example, someone learns to stop at a red light when driving a car but doesn't know/remember to stop at a red light when crossing a street. They've learned to do it in one specfic instant but can't apply the learned behavior to similar, but separate, situations. It's a psychological problem, not something caused by laziness or meaness or anything intentionally. I'm looking for the name of the condition that people have who can't do the type of things I've described. Anyone psychology students out there who can help me? Thanks.
Answer:
The only thing I can come up with is, "inability to generalize".
