What happens when situations are over-analyzed?
People say that people with low self-esteem assume everyone is judging them (their fears) but people with crushes project their hopes (he looked at me, he must like me!).
What is it that affects how we view reality, if it is different for different situations?
Answer:
Sometimes when we analyze too much we cause more problems. We give something meaning where the meaning isn't or is something else.
Reality is what IS. Analyzing is trying to make sense of it.
Reality is "John killed his brother".
Analysis is "John killed his brother, because... (fill in the blank)
Problems happen if and when the analysis is incorrect or beaten to death or regarded as FACT. People fight about the analysis as truth rather than the reality of the situation.
I do it all the time, that is why I am considered somewhat of a basket case, but it helps me when I study. I know everything is fine at big social event, buy my mind just keeps running. Sometimes there is a fine line between over analyzing obsessions and genius. Look at Einstein...
The social over-analyzing is called an introverted personality. I have it and I would say it is a negative thing.
sometimes you can over-analyze and come up with absurd scenarios and explanations but sometimes we're right on target. i think we project our fears much more than our hopes. we all have our own things going on in our heads but a lot of times the way we view reality is based on how society tells us to. it is similar to other situations but quite different in many others.
Our beliefs affect how we view reality, real or imagined, or a combination. A shy person gets drunk, thinks they are the life of the party, great looking, or the some little thing was a deliberate insult.
If you get more things to fill out your day, you wont have time to "over analyze" situations. I mean in general, not talking to you specifically.
I think when we over analyze we misinterpret. We need to take things for what they are rather than continuing to dwell on them. We usually end up defensive or offended when we over think things. I think that most people truly mean good and don't want to blatantly hurt people. "It is what it is" is my latest mantra.
When we over-analyze, the view of the over-all picture becomes distorted to the point of not having the real situation at all. The dot on the shirt becomes larger than the shirt.
ouch
my experience has shown me that we view reality based upon our past experiences.. that's why 2 people can see the same situation so differently, they have different histories, different experiences.
also, as a person who has been accused of "over-analyzing" personal situations, on more than one occassion, i think the tendency to do this is an effort to make sense of situations. when something doesn't match how "i think" it should be, i analyze the crap out of it. doesnt help that i'm a trained therapist, with the tools to analyze people & things... sometimes too much in my personal life.
there's another example of how something that can be a strength in some situations (analyzing is an asset in my work), but a weakness in another.
Through our past perceptions is how we judge our current experiences, and then react to them from that judgement.
It is better to respond and with no judgement.
if you do,things gets harder
Memory, time to think and how you think. i think skew reality, it gets worse the more you consider it.
