I don't think that most of us are even aware of our consciousness at all. I believe in Carl Jung's theory of the unconscious conscious where we are unconsciously aware that our conscious is one. Physical scientists have proved that matter is the same in every part of the universe, but they don't want to embrace the theory that we are all part of the same one being.
