Do you use humor as a defense mechanism?

If so, in what situations? Does your style of "levity vs. challenge" change to suit the occasion? Your first-hand experiences are most welcome.

Answer:
i do, but try to limit it to taking the heat off me when i don't want to share something about myself. if i see someone has something serious they want to discuss about themselves i typically don't want to invalidate their feelings by lightening the moment
I always use humor as a defense mechanism. It has never failed me. I have found the best time to have it kick in is in the dr.'s office. Oh, the humor you can have in a dr.'s office. Lol.
Yes, but I have to be careful not to use sarcastic humor. Or mock others. Or imitate the weird behavior of others. It's all defense mechanism but it does have an aggressive offense if I feel threatened.
Humor as a defense can and does get one out of some situations. Other times it can make them worse..In my case i've had both.
i like to avoid conflict, but if i get into it at times, i do try to make things seem alright by using lighthearted sarcasim.
no, I never do as an adult. I did when I was growing up and all it did was reinforce a bad situation.
