Positive, anything that people like to do will relieve stress, however, I feel that online games cause more stress, as you are pressured to do well. Single player offline games are much less stressful, they present a feeling of accomplishment at the end.
For some people, they use video games as a way to escape from their problems, this is an example of them being used negatively. They can be as addictive as drugs in that situation.
When used correctly, video games are just like any other activity, in excess it can be negative, in moderate amounts, a positive experience. But to answer the initial question, mostly positive.
Anyone who thinks violent video games make people more violent is, well, an idiot, for lack of a better word. Studies have shown the crime rate has actually gone down since video games became more popular, and despite all this, Jack Thompson still spouts off his lies and tries to stop the video gaming industry, I really hope he gets help some day.
i think its both u have like the educational video game for like 2 year old that teaches u math and english but as u get older most the video game becomes violent and many teen belive that its ok like people killing each other or racing on the streets idk so negative
for me postive because it relieves stress and anger (shooting, fighting games) but some people take it way too seriously and go out and imatite it. they help our brains work. it really depends on the people that play it

Every cause has an affect and every affect is the result of a cause. I believe videogames promote the numbing of our society - desensitizing - with no redeeming qualities. Killing, maiming, torturing, blood/guts everywhere, death without any connection to life - a 'get them before they get us' mentality - is now considered 'entertainment,' Each decision we make as a socity leads us towards the next evolution - and I for one, am not comfortable with the direction in which we're evolving. The only ones who win in this degradation of societal values - is the so-called 'entertainment industry.'
Since this country has lost its identity, we've become a nation of 'just can't say no' - therefore, everything goes.
They are a negative effect on society since they contribute to obesity. People become obsessed with them and let their personal lives suffer because of them. They can cause a lot of stress in marriages.
