How and why do we dream ?

Answer:
the brain is really the ultimate computer. it gets it's data directly from our our senses. dreams are also the brains way of sorting through the day's experiences as well as processing our own inner emotional conflicts. think of your dreams as the mind's way of taking a crap.

Like Vin said---a dream is the brains " toilet flush".
no one actually knows there are only theories.

there are many 'why' questions without definite answers, and philosophers will question the certainty of any theory - how can we be sure of any knowledge we have used to come up with this theory as being fact or truth.
The human brain is complex and two main things make it up: the brain (physical organ) and a mind(thought process). When we sleep these two parts of the brain work separately. However, researchers are not entirely sure about dreaming in general.
