Question: we perceive our looks differently to others..discuss?
Answer:
i think that when we see things, our opinions already formed about them skew what we see. I have a different opinion of myself than you have of me, this causes you to see a slightly different person when you look at me. Have you ever met somebody that you thought was really pretty or handsome until you got to talk with them and saw that they had a really ugly personality, and suddenly they weren't that good looking? or vice versa you saw someone that wasn't very good looking then when you got to know that they have a really good personality, and then next time you saw them, they were alot better looking? I think it all ties together.
I agree. I think I am a little fat...but that's just when I look at myself. If you try to look in the mirror at a different person, you actually look pretty good. It's just how you see the world. Is the glass half empty of half full?

When I look in the mirror I see all my flaws. I look at that one hair out of place or "Damnit, I forgot to tweeze ONE spot on my eyebrows!" Sometimes I rag on myself about my weight. I'm not ft by any means, but sometimes I wish my body was a bit better. I'll look at my tummy and think "Why aren't you flat?!"
When others see me, they see me very differently. I'm thin, I'm pretty, and I look good no matter what. They see something I don't, but I'm my own worst critic, so that might play a big role of it too.
i think the reason we look at ourselves differently than everybody else is because the media puts so much stress on being 'beautiful' that people strive for perfection, and one person who may look great to others may become so obsessed in improving the tiniest thing that she will see herself as ugly. the thing people don't seem to realize is that there is no such beauty to the point of perfection because everyone has different opinions and taste, on man may like women on the slender side while the other like meat on the bones, and certain things like that.
