Do you ever find yourself analyzing characters in movies? Which character or characters interrested you most?

For example, I watch the DIE HARD movies and can see why Bruce Willis' character, John McClane, has an ex-wife and kids who don't like him sometimes. I see anger management problems and "black & white" thought processes, how he takes everything personal and makes everything personal. I see tenacity but also see loyalty and self-sacrifice. Just an example.

Well, I think part of a movie is itself, to demonstrate the characters and their personalities. Any story line does just that. I think most people perceive it but I suppose I do go the steps to ponder it every now and then. I think you are in the beginnings of a good writing career! Making characters and understanding them will profit you greatly when making your own script.
One problem today is that characters are all to often recycled. It is the same over-and-over again. There are probably 7 or different types of characters you could write about and that would cover all of them in every movie ever made!
American movies are accused of being too "fantasy" which I agree with. Other countries try to capture human existence as it is. I like these kind of movies. Although slower and not as action packed, they give-off a better representative example of the human condition. French movies are great for this. Be careful though, their message is subtle and sometimes if you do not think critically about it you may miss it and be bored.
Die Hard is a good, simple, cliche American action film but you show potential to branch out to more complicated story lines & characters!
Good Luck!
most movies i watch i don't, because the characters are just real enough for me to get into the story, but not quite real enough to analyze the way i do with people in real life - if it's a good enough script, director, or even an actor that knows how to soak up the personality and do it right, then maybe i can - but for the most part, they're just not complex enough for my tastes
ok well if you wants interesting characyers then all i can say to you, is to watch alfred hitchcocks movies...they're all about psychology etc. like the way he makes his movies is amaaazing! they're mostly about serial killers and fears etc but the way he shows the characters is phenomenal...trust! just watch any1 of his movies sometime!
haha and yea i guess you do relate to some characters at times
Al Pacino in the Godfather movies. He went from being a very nice young man at the beginning and then he changed drastically. He got to the point of depression where he had no emotion and no friends and even closed the door on his wife. Had his brother killed and had all his enemies killed. Even his good friends like Tom Hagen who was loyal to him was afraid to make him angry. I can see why nobody would want to be around him. And then when he finally was trying to change and be a nice guy again the one person he loved, his daughter got in the way and was shot and killed. He then lived a long time. And that was part of his punishment and then he died alone in Sicily. He learned his lesson but not soon enough. And then he had to answer to God.
Will Hunting in Good Will Hunting as well as Sean (?) the psychologist. I thought the movie was one of the best of our time for originality, characters and plot.
