Help! interesting problem. {I need to pick a fight with myself}?
it's best to start from the beinging. there's this new counselor down at mental health. he told me to right stuff without thinking and that lead to me finding my problems out.
the solution though is a problem of it's own. he said that there's an inner conflict with in me. here's the solution. he said for me to stand aside and let the to me's talk it out.
yep I can here the crickets now. how do I stand aside and be discussing things with me. that like you trying to be your own opponent in a boxing match and the referee at the same time.
helppppppppppppppppppppppp
Answer:
(I like the way you write.) You already comprehend how exciting this hypothetical, or pretend, debate can be, don't you? Go for it. It's just acting. Put some guts and passion into it. The wisest people in the world duke it out with themselves all the time. ACT. You'll feel the two roles. Be totally honest. Be decent and noble in the debate. And, don't be afraid or retreat or hide or give-up. Face the challenge of whatever you yourself wants to bring up. This therapy really works. Don't laugh, please. But, obviously somewhere by yourself, use a sock as a puppet and debate with that. As I'm going about my daily activities, I frequently "personify" inanimate objects like that to be my "alter ego" for a moment. Just my cats observe that strange behavior and a few ancient Buddhist priests who find it amusing rather than slightly batty.
I can imagine it may be difficult to understand. Perhaps he should have explained what that had meant to you at the time. Have you every thought of taking a look at your life from someone else prospective? Take a look at the BIG picture! We are our own best critics. Nobody knows us like we know us. A second opinion may help. Stepping aside could mean several things, but to find the true meaning of the defenition would take you asking the person whom asked you what the HELL did he mean by it. Good luck.
I think he just means he wants you to relax and your inner problems will work themselves out before you know it.
When you're alone don't you just talk out of frustration? Just to get the stress out in the open. yell at no one! Tape record it you'll be surprised what you find out!!
He means to take your ego out of the conversation. Drop all the attitude and the posturing and the game playing.
Stop trying to be smart.
Start saying things about yourself that are scary but true.
Things that it doesn't feel right to say out loud.
Rat on yourself.
Let the counselor hear the ugliest truth you can spit out.
Then he get his little thrill, and you get to stop seeing guys like him.
Also, you might start to feel better.
