Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel comfortable and at home. If you're happy in a hostel, then stay there - the advantage is, you'll meet other travellers. If you're the kind of person who needs to be on your own, then go rent a room.

that's a good question, i would recommend getting a job first and when i say that i don't mean your dream job just something to get the cash flow coming in to have some type of security and then once you have some sort of income look around and get the place you want. that way you have a steady job which for you know you can make payments then if your not happy with the job you have gotten change to which suits you best
i suggest both. while ur looking for permanent housing, i would stop by the companies nearest to wherever u would be staying. hotels will eat ur money sooner than u think. u should really try to do both at the same time trust me been there done that.
better have a job first then when you got your pay then that's the time for you to look for another place to live where you can move freely.
