As a sheltered only child, I was doused with neverending praise. I was used to it. Now as an adult, I suppose I want people, friends around me to also give me that validation. So...I tend to make myself seem great with money, education, traveling etc.--in hopes that my friends will be Happy for me and Proud of me..instead it has an opposite effect only making them hate me and it hurts big time because I need this Praise. And the VERY very LASt thing I wanted to do was to make them mad at me....etc. I value their friendship without a doubt but this need that I have and how it manifests really is repelling people rather than drawing them towards me how do I change?

maybe you are extroverted. you are insecure and there are ways to deal with it.
learn to validate yourself. you can say to yourself that you did a very good job and you are proud of yourself. that you did a fantastic job handling your mones, ect. it's something i learned going from high scholl and into college. in high school the teachers had to give you the desire to learn in college you had to make yourself do it because the teachers didn't give give a damn if you learned or not. make yourself aware of situations where you feel the need for praise and and back off from it. let your friends know how you feel. explain it to them just like you did here and let them know othat you are trying to change. maybe they'll even help you to make the changes you feel need to be made. you might try going to a therapist also, they can really help. good luck.
