If Freud is generally accepted as wrong, why is kinky sex about erogenous zones and the death instinct?
Answer:
I don't think Freud was "wrong" about everything...I'm not sure I agree with his ideas about "fixation" being the causes of abnormal sexual behavior, though. I'm not sure about fixation, period. But I think he is on to something when it comes to childhood experiences having an impact on conscience development and behavior that results from that.
Kinky sex isn't all about errogenous zones..nor is it considered "kinky" by some...depending on what it is you are talking about. What's "normal" for one person may not be for another. The death instinct? That's one (of a few) ideas that I think Freud was wrong about. How to bridge the gap? Good question. I guess that's why we have the study of psychology in the first place...to answer some of these questions...I believe that there are some things that just cannot be studied objectively...and those ideas seem to be rejected by scientists. That's too bad. Not everything in this world is objective. Therefore, studying psychology from it's many different angles is key to formulating one's own opinions...which then, to me, are just as valid as the next guy's...LOL
Freud didn't understand anything except his own twisted view on dogmatic practice. He was just a person who spread rumors and false theories geared towards his past which we don't even know are true except for the obvious.he failed to have healthy relationships with women. I believe his issues were based on lack of headship in his childhood home and the relationship with his mother was severely interfered with by his father which he never came to terms with. I draw that conclusion from the fact he became his father...extremely self-centered. Should rest of the world have to pay or look for excuses from his theories because he failed to have a healthy relationship with his parents. Freud made his family pay for that as well..he arranged them to be all about him using isolation.
