Why do some people not seek out medical help when they are sick?
Please explain with one of the following theories--Freud, Jung, Adler, or Erikson. Oh, and why do you think this?
Answer:
Cause they are tooo sick..
Because their afraid of the potentially bad news they may hear.
they do not think they are sick, they think everyone else is
hahahahahahahhahahahahhahahaha...
Simply, they did not want to hear that there is something wrong with them . They believe whatever is ailing them will go away and they will feel better in the morning. On some, the morning never comes, but they do not know this because htey have died and have no memory of dying or time to reflex that they have died, so their problem is solved.
Depends on your definition of Sick. Really, the definition of sickness is different cross-culturally.
I think many medical "fixes" arent the answer to the true sickness, and deep down these people know this.
It could also be pride/embarassment, a BAD past medical practice, Financial... I think this seems illogical to most unless something has happend to make you fear it yourself.
There is "disorder" name for this but for most I really think it's a combination of the feelings above (I fight these feelings myself and only go if they have something I cannot get access to on my own.. like an x-ray machine :p
Many have their theories but for me it is a general mistrust of the system, the DRUGS, the closed minded doctors.
simple - they cannot afford it.
perhaps it has something to do with seeking medical help being pleasurable, and therefore driven by the id. and the drive to seek help is then suppressed by the ego because there is actually nothing wrong with us. - wow, that was such bs.
i'm sure in the eyes of freud there is some interpretation that is full of sexual connotations, but i won't go there.
a) They are in denial about their condition.
b) They cannot afford the medical fees.
c) Both of the above.
Jung would explain that there are differing personality styles and the introverted styles are more prone to being reclusive in all ways. They're not necessarily ill, just misunderstood and not accepted. They might have differing abilities and might be more prone to compensate for sensate abilities with insensate actions, under stress. Others might consider these tendencies maladaptive while they're highly restorative to Introvert-Sensate types.
I might be fond of Jung and sought out his works after many years of psychotherapy, testing in different circumstances and finally agreeing with him.
Simple:
Seeking medical help would mean admitting that you're sick, and that means admitting something's wrong with you.
People are jsut too proud to admit when something's wrong with them.
