Intelligence and Speech?
Does anyone know if a child's speech ability can demonstrate or hint to a certain intelligence level? My son started talking at 8 months old and now he's 1 and 1/2 years old and he can sing (in verse) all of the baby lullaby's my wife and I sang to him. He can also give directions to the way home from a close point. Just curious as to see if my child shows intellectual promise.

The single best predictor of intelligence is one's language usage. While this is a question best left up to "professionals", your son seems to be a bit ahead of schedule, to put it mildly. Don't try him to much; let him develop naturally. Of course, generally speaking, the more info you give and the more varied it is, the more he will develop. So, yes, he shows "promise".

If you are talking bout scoring well on IQ type tests he will likely do well on some parts and have high scores. There is more than memorization and verbal skills to life. We have been told that Einstein did not talk until he was 5, was a poor student and could not get a job above patent examiner 3rd class when he came up with his relativity theory.
