Guys opinion...girls too? Media question?
But why don't men step up to the plate for young boys? Why can't they say, "It's okay not to have a 6 pack, being overweight does not make you unattractive or unhealthy," etc? I have a couple of good male friends and I have looked through some of the different sections on Yahoo that seems to me like boys/men struggle just as much with body image as females do. My question is why isn't something done about it?
Answer:
""It's okay not to have a 6 pack, being overweight does not make you unattractive or unhealthy,""
Umm...actually it DOES make you unhealthy(I should know, cuz God KNOWS I should hit the gym). But I see your point. I guess people are under the ignorant assumption that boys don't have body image issues. There are a LOT of young men out there that have died because of steroid abuse, just so that they can have that muscular body. There are boys out there with anorexia and bulimia, but, as usual, women are made out to be the only ones with these issues. If you look at TV commercials that advertise diet foods, like Lean Cuisine for example, these commercials NEVER have men in them. It's almost as if men are encouraged to overeat, and eating unhealthily is seen as 'manly',whereas dieting is seen as a 'women's' thing. It's pretty sad.
The norm does not show guys as a sexual object as much as a woman is..
more women have an unhealthy problem with their image than men...men are usually more concerned with "can i find a good job/provide?" etc.
You don't see that message because being overweight IS both unattractive and unhealthy. It would be an irresponsible lie to promote the message you wrote above
Some people suffer more from body dysmorphic disorder
than others. Just because it isn't published or in the media's attention, doesn't mean it isn't there.
Most guys I guess aren't really willing to show or be open about the situation and women usually are more attracted to 'The Perfect Image' and guys really just go with what they have. Good question to bring up to.
This issue of a man's body image misses the whole point of being a man. It's about personal power, that is, how a man carries himself, presents himself.
A man's success with attracting women is based on those factors, not how good he looks in advertising. This opinion is based on my experience in Media. Look at the most powerful and wealthy men. What kind of women do they attract?
If you are looking for a long lasting relationship, personality always wins over a good looking bod. Some of the most average looking men catch the most beautiful women through a dynamic personality and knowing the keys to a woman's heart.

Well, if healthy eating and drinking were stressed to the males, we would have no more hot dogs at ball games, beer would be out and also the backyard bar-b-que would be null and void. Men simply do not eat as healthy as women, even after the "big one" I have seen men slip back into their old habits. At least a very good percentage do. There is always the exception. Women, we should accept nothing but the buffest bodies in our homes and cook appropriately.
It does not matter what men say to men. Men do what they have to do in order to attract women.
As long as women google over the 6 pack the boys will try.
On another note, it normally does not last long, with age you loose that and with beer it is faster.
