I watch the film really often and I want to know if he really did the drugs or if he was just a really fine actor...And I really want to know why would you want to feel the way they did in the movie..Chaos was obviously the result of the way they handled the situations in the movie and they handled it that way cos of the drugs..Why then would you take it to such a level? I know he says...once you're on a trip..the tendency is to push it as far as you can go...but still..their lives werea mess...Any insight?

That kind of drug experience is hard to fake, that tells me that he has probably done his share of drugs in the past. But I doubt he did them for the movie. Their behavior was hedonistic and nihilistic. Have fun because theres no reason not to. Its a very detached way of looking at things.
i would say he didn't. it's acting and the camera work.
I know he spent time with old Hunter to prepare for the role, and just being in the same building is probably an altered state.
