Question about psychology??
do you do or have you done psychology in college, did you like it, what did it cover, would you reccommend it??
cheers!
Answer:
Done it,loved it!
I have a degree in psychology, and I ave to say social psych was my least favorite part. It is very vague and theoretical and does little to explain the individual. My advice would be to choose general psychology and not just social psych - or you will miss out on the best bits.
I did psychology in college and it covered approaches to psychology (which was interesting) but then we also looked at topic areas such as Autism, schizophrenia, criminology, memory, depression and what the causes and treatments for each topic were. I found this really boring and too scientific. There was so much information to learn for exams too. If given the choice again I wouldn't do it but I still managed to get an A grade in it even though I hated the subject.
As a recommendation to you, if you feel that you will like it then choose the subject. Two of my subjects that I chose I did not have a clue whether I would like them but one I loved and one I hated but still did well in. Take a chance that you will like it and go for it.
I Loved it, I did the GSCE version and ALevel.
GSCE was brilliant, we all sat round talking about freud and our dreams.
Alevel was a bit different. we learned about memory, about behaviour and a whole bunch of stuff which i've forgotten lol.
You have to have a bit of worldly nouse about you. you cant be naive going into a subject like that. and also you have to be good at remembering dates and names, and all the stages that we go through (there's like 8 stages a child goes through before it gets to 10 years old for example)
But once you've done it, its fasinating. you can look at people and read them and really get into their heads... dont do it too much though.. can get a bit annoying! lol
Good Luck!
Psychology is basically an experiential science subject, with a lot of biological content.
A BSc degree will introduce you to various categories psychologists deal with eg. social, developmental, educational, clinical, health, sports etc.
You may find you have an affinity for a certain area of psychology based on your life experiences and attitudes.
You will also discover that each area of psychology links to the other as all are based on the theories of human interaction and behaviour.
You may therefore appreciate a course that offers you a general overview of the complete subject area rather than a secular snippet as you have described.
I think then you will have more knowledge in the psychology arena and be better advised when choosing a specialist subject.
