How does someone break the habit of nail biting?
Answer:
Get a load of our new Prime Minister - he bites his nails incessantly - photographers take pictures of his appalling hands but it doesn't stop him.
When I was a little girl, my father and his nice brothers all bit their nails, so now when I see bitten nails I feel warmth and affection remembering how kind they all were to us kids.
It's well known that everybody bites their nails at some stage in their lives, so yours is just a bit longer then others.
have you tried that foul tasting nail polish?
well after 10 years, i broke the habit by using the stinky nail polish. it really works, but the best way to quit is getting braces on your teeth! it worked for a friend.. you need the willpower to quit though
Self-discipline - tell yourself NO.
1. Try finding a replacement habit - like chewing sugar free gum or learning origami to keep those hands busy. Also learning some relaxation techniques like meditation or stretches will also help take release those nervous energies.
2. Another habit to cultivate is to keep a small manicure set on hand all the time so that when your nails snag on something, you can immediately file it or clip it to keep those nails looking smooth.
3. Keep your hands manicured. A professional manicure is probably less expensive than you think, and the feeling of being pampered is a great reward. Plus keeping the nails polished will discourage nail-biting because polish tastes nasty. Choose really eye-catching colors as they will serve as a visual reminder not to bite them. If you really can't afford a professional manicure, then maybe you can get together with a friend and have a do-it-yourself manicure party.
Definately keep a nail file so you don't have to bite them. Also, the nail polish can work. If that doesn't work, you could put band-aids ovet the nails or something similar.
