Yesterday was my first day as an EMS cadet, and I was so scared when our ambul. was dispatched. any advice/?
anyone else feel scared there first time out into an ambulance?
Answer:
First, calm down, and realx. Then, think about the other people, instead of yourself, and how much help you are giving to that person and their family. Ackowledging that fact gives almost anyoner courage, except for the spoiled kids... whom of which I hate... but yeah. Just put the other people before yourself and you'll do alright. This is kinda weird answering this question, but I guess it helps out in the end, because if the EMS people would have gotten to my house only 5 minutes before they did, my dad would still be alive. I mean, from where they were coming, I could run there in less! They were coming from downtown, at 2 in the morning! But, I am not tryingf to discourage you. You became a EMS worker to help those in need, and I thank you.
Yep
The first time you do anything it is scary.
I was a EMT and the first training night we had (I was still in a class) we had a pretend wreck out on a country road.
I was suppose to stay in the back of the ambulance because they pulled a doll (baby) out and I was taking care of it.
Then one of the volunteer firemen cadets came over acting really weird, like he was drunk.
Well, I didn't know what to do so I asked someone to check on him. His dad (a fireman there) came over and by this time the kid was having a seizure. His dad said this is not part of the training, lets get him to the hospital. So it ended up being a real call, not just pretend.
It really is scary because you never know what you are going to find when you show up at a call.
Then there was the time a lady came running down the street with an unconscious baby.
She ran into the doctors office and I went in and helped the nurse in there do CPR on the baby. The ambulance barn was right next door and we saved the baby but it went to a special hospital and died a few days later. That really bothered me for a long time. It had a malformation somewhere.
