Depends, my immeditate family are more important than my friends yet my friends to me are more important than say like a distant cousin who I've met only a few times in my life...
As I have a lot of family that don't care about my family or me, and friends that will actually help me out, I think friends are more important.

My mother always comes first, but after that it is my friends usually before other relatives.
They are both very important. There were times when I was upset with my family of origin and wanted to write them off. But I'm glad I didn't.
