Intelligence versus success. How do you explain it?
Answer:
What a great question! I have an above average IQ but maths just confuses me. I can add, subtract, multiply most figures in my head or on paper but don't understand things like algebra at all! Yet I'm really good at solving other problems and at English plus I can remember 16 plus digit numbers without any problem at all. When it comes to education I get bored really easily then give up. The things I've been successfull with are, Horse riding and teaching, PA work, Management and Counselling. None of these, I think, require a high IQ but I enjoy them so they are easy. I suppose it could be said I've wasted my potential but I've been happy in the things I've done and, for me, that's what's important.
In a nutshell success isn't always intelligence led.
Intelligence is something you are born with. Whether or how you use it is up to you. Success is something that people create. Just because your intelligent, it doesn't mean that you have the drive or motivation to achieve success. And if you have sufficient drive and motivation, you can be more successful than people who have more intelligence than you do.
I think because a lot of people who are just majorly book smart, don't really have the street smarts of the sucessful, less educated person. Not in all cases, but sometimes the less educated person knows that it takes more than intellgence to achieve success. Thats my opinion.
Sometimes they grew up with better examples of how to do every day life.
Have you ever heard of the term "smart ***"? Or he was too smart for his own good. Would you rather be right or happy. Most people are well balanced. A lot of people are good at one thing. But if you are good at one thing and are not well balanced, your weakness will eventually weigh you down.
A lot of time emotions get in the way of our intelligence. Our psychology will determine if we can make use of our intelligence wisely. Our intelligence cannot handle our emotions.
I'm sorry but I don't know, even if it's very interesting.
What do you define success as?
Intelligence is different from success. In general, to be a successful person, you need some intelligence but you don't require to be a super brainy one. Intelligence is just one factor that contributes in success.
I would like to say that intelligence is not all about having mathematical abilities. It can be classified into two groups: So-called "liquid type" which is the ability of instantaneous problem solving (say for example solving a mathematical problem or choosing between complex options). "Crystallized intelligence" , on the other hand, is the collection of what you know about everything. Most people are equipped only with just one type of intelligence.
Depending upon how and at what level you define the success the underlying factors to achieve that differ. One might be successful in a project (say for example getting married) and fail in another. It's quite rare to find a person who is successul in each and every aspect of his or her life. It's just impossible.
I personally believe that if you are a type of person who make the best of your intellectual and affective capacity of your brain you are a successful person.
Intelligence isn't synonymous with mathematics. Math is a skill like cooking is a skill. Do you think Einstein could bake a cake...probably not.
Some "normal" people are quite good at multitasking and can handle many things at the same time. A lot of mid level supervisors are like that. Are they "dumb"?
I've known some pretty smart people who couldn't balance their checkbook, or they didn't have the patience to do it.
Intelligence is a measure of thinking, remembering and reasoning skills...
Success is measurable by what; money, power, friends and the love of ones family? Success is fleeting and can be taken away quickly.
The two aren't necessarily intertwined.
Sometimes you need to have more commonsense than intelligence, to solve everyday problems. sometimes its a case of what you have learned through life from life experiences. you then know how to fix a problem or situation quickly,
so intelligence by itself is sometimes not enough
Really great question
