Im 16 and i still watch cartoons?

Yes...I know wat u might be thinking, im too old for cartoons, ima baby or toddler, but then cartoons are so cool. Is there something wrong with me for liking it? Is it stunting my psychological growth? Am i regressing back to the womb where i can be safe from issues of everyday life like politics, corruption, loneliness, society, friends, love-life, nature, pollution, global warming, and many other things? But then the cartoons i like are something like "Samurai jack" and "Avatar: The last airbender" or anime where these issues are often discussed. There is violence in these cartoons too. I also like comics from newspaper and classic cartoons. Is there something wrong here? Or am i just fullfilling some fantasies that i cant think up but i can watch these(ancient east asian stuff, swordfights, etc), just as one can by playing games(shooters, rpgs)? Do i have any apparent mental disorders here? List all that u think fits this "condition" here so i can look it up for myself.

Answer:
I'm decades older than you are, and I love animated kids movies - for no reason other than they're fun to watch, harmless, have a nice story to them, and have a happy ending. My brother once gave me the Anastasia video for my birthday, and my sister gave me the soundtrack from The Little Mermaid. :)

I'm a serious person, mother of three grown kids, and I faithfully watch Nightline, Frontline, and the Sunday morning political shows. I've done my share of trying to make the world a better place, trying to change the world, and working to hold my family together. I've spent years research the very serious subject of educational issues, and I've been through losing my parents and other losses. For all the "worthwhile" things I've tried to do, and all the serious things I've had to deal with, one of the things I like most about myself is the fact that through it all I've never lost my love of children's movies, particularly the animated ones.

There is no human leading lady acting in a grown-up movie who can ever be nearly as magical and charismatic as Disney princesses; and there is no human actor who can ever have the personality of some of the animated ones. I, too, have done my share of watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as Gummy Bears, on Saturday mornings.

Part of my admiration for animated films involves the graphics. They can make magic in a way that non-animated films can't. Anastasia had the most amazing night-time city scenes and a train scene that was equally amazing.

There's a pure entertainment factor in cartoons, as well as the cleverness of the artwork and/or graphics. I don't know the cartoons you mentioned, but some violence in cartoons is more like the old kind of violence in old tv shows - it offers the adventure, the good-guy's winning over the bad guy, etc., without the gore that non-animated films has these days.

I tend to think the fact that I appreciate animated movies the way I do may be the thing that actually shows how well adjusted I really am. As you say, there are the serious issues in life. The human mind needs a rest from it, and since you're still just 16 you probably need a rest more than someone my age may.

For me, I'm so sure of my own intelligence and maturity (always have been, regardless of how old I was at the time) that I've never been insecure about just enjoying something that is made for children. Less secure people may worry about looking silly or immature.

At 16 there is usually still a lot of free time for people. In another couple of years you'll be busier with other things and probably watch fewer cartoons, but if you like them you'll probably always watch them sometimes.

You're right - cartoons are cool. The ones I like aren't cool, but they tend to be beautiful or magical and have nice messages and pretty scenery and music.

I'm not a professional in the area of psychology, but I tend to suspect that when it comes to psychological growth our psychological growth leads us in the direction it needs to go. Whether you're just enjoying some "off time" for your brain when you watch cartoons, appreciating the graphics and storylines, or enjoying watching something with characters you've gotten to know, your psychological growth is probably right on track. It will let you know when its time to watch fewer cartoons.

We live in a world that tells teenagers they're all grown up and should be involved with all kinds of things they're really not ready for. Just relax and don't even think about your cartoon-watching. You're young. You're probably not "regressing" - just resisting a world that incorrectly tells teens they're supposed to "be all serious" and involved in things that they're not ready for.

Make yourself a promise: When life starts to demand more of your time and attention, and when you begin to get separated from the cartoons more than you can now imagine you ever will, promise yourself you will always make time for at least a few cartoons a week. :) Three or four decades from now you'll be glad you've kept this bit of being young for yourself.

P.S: When I get bored I also go to those doll sites online (that young girls do) and make little cartoon dolls, outfits for them, hair-do's etc. You should see my collection of princesses that I keep stored in my e.mail for no reason.
Hey may I am 25 and I still watch cartoon planet. It sure hell beats the rest of the stuff I see on TV.
You noodleroni.
Does someone think you should be out getting into trouble? Cartoons are okay, though a JOB is better! How about a job in a Comix store?
Don't worry its absolutely completely normal.
We all find happiness in cartoons for different reasons. Some for, as you said, watching intresting fantasies go about that would never happen in the real world. I watch cartoons and i'm 15. I think its fine, i will always watch them :) I like to watch them because i think its kind of like holding on to your childhood. I can't fully accept that i'm not a baby anymore, and knowing that i still enjoy the cartoons i loved back then reassures me that im not fully grown up just yet/
There's nothing wrong with watching cartoons. I'm 28 & watch cartoons all the time. Some cartoons are designed for both adults & kids, and some, just for adults. Nothing weird about it. Some people are so into cartoons they even go to conventions & stuff, & there is nothing wrong with that either. It's just like a hobby. When I meet other people that like cartoons, personally I think it's cool & unique
Stay young, buddy. Stay young.

My cartoon favorite is Johnny Bravo.
Im 25 and love rugrats :) nothing wrong with watching cartoons its a good way to wind down and relax
You are never too old to watch cartoons. More kids should watch cartoons, but the old kind. When they were funny and fun to watch. Now everything has to do with violence and foul language! Keep watching and don't worry so much about what other people think or say!
I'm WAY older than you and love cartoons. I just downloaded 2 days worth of vintage cartoons on my ipod.
ha i watch em still, but mainly because my nephew is 8 and lives in the same house, but still i watch them when he aint there lol dont worry
And your question is what?? I"m 52 and I love to watch the cartoons from when I was younger, I used to have a very extensive comic book collection. My sister and her husband have a very extensive comic book selection and they are a year younger than I am. As long as you do as well as your talents let you in school and the other area's of your life there shouldn't be a problem. Enjoy just don't let them take over your life.
Some older people watch cartoon ,and I don;t think they have a mental disorder.
I'm 17 and watch Space Ghost Coast to Coast. That show is so random!
im 18 and i still watch cartoons.
i'm 'almost' 16 n i still watch em =/

i find nothing wrong with this =D
Man you alright...It's normal...That's just what you love...That just like saying once I turn 18 I should stopt riding a bicycle and drive a car...I'm 21 and I still play video games...Better enjoy!
although i dont watch cartoons anymore a lot of my friends do and it is perfectly healthy as long as you are getting more knowledge-related things too...like if you read or watch discovery or something like that...some shows on discovery are really cool ...check out man vs. wild or cash cab and other stuff where you learn new things as long as you are getting a balance there isnt anything wwrong with you still watching cartoons
Vertual world is one of the best. I still watch cartoons, and I am older than you. Actually, let me give you some tips on cartoons to watch. You want to stick to Anime; its 300 times better than normal cartoons, and you can watch them online. Good Animes include:
Final Fantasy VII: advent children (anime movie)
Kneshin
Death note
Cowboy Bebop
Gungrave
Berserk

You shouldn't watch pointless cartoons (like spungebob). Those really make you stupider and slower. I recomend death note. They way you can watch them online is through youtube.com. What you do is (for example) if you want to watch the first episode of Kenshin, you type "Kenshin 1." Second episode, you type "Kenshin 2." and so on. Have fun!!
over analyzing the simple things could make you a little nuts.
there is a reason Homer Simpson drinks beer.
You might consider getting a quiet girl friend and just
let her breathe into your ear.
As long as you dun watch Teletubbies, you are fine.
Hey Spongebob and Squarepants is a funny and cute cartoon to watch! I like it.
Well tv today is stupid and I like to see the different art styles in cartoons today, preferably anime. Hey you're not alone, I'm just like you, well maybe I know more about the outside world probably. But I really hate those stupid cartoons like Ed Edd 'n Eddy, that's just stupid, I hate the art, I hate the scripts, yeah I hate everything. It's nothing wrong what you're doing right now and it's a fine thing. You could probably learn a bit from watching but just don't watch too much cartoons, you're still in reality.
Im 24. I watch cartoons more than often, and infact im proud of watching them...lol.. I am obsessed with my childhood, and i experience it again, when i watch cartoons. And its super normal to watch them. Cartoons, seem MORE REAL, to me, than the so called real people of this world.

You are on right track.
T.V. is T.V. son. It does not matter whether it is drawn or acted just as long as you can distinguish that it is not real, the opinions of someone, and that you do not spend too much time watching it; then you're good.
iam 23 yrs old and i like cartoons, thr is no harm in watching cartoons. infact if u like cartoons that means u r still young at heart. no need to worry , 70 % of adults love cartoons.
At your age, i don't think watching cartoons makes you immature. It is your best interest, it makes you achieved contentment. Who knows someday you will create and direct a cartoon network. I absolutely disagree you are suffering from mental disorder. You are a perfectly normal person. Enjoy what you do... Have fun watching cartoons!
see.,,Theres many more like you., like me,.I do watch cartoons...I love Lion King 1 and 2 ,.,.,(is that embarassing?) but I really admire it's story...I think it is advisable for everyone too watch....
