Is suicide wrong?

Answer:
There can be no definitive answer to that question. The major theistic religions all say it is wrong or sinful, but I don't listen to what they say on anything anyway.
Clearly, it's wrong if you have a family or friends that love you, and who would be deeply traumatised by your death. From that perspective, suicide seems like the ultimate selfish act. But to say that suicide per se is wrong misses the point that that the factors leading to suicide are extremely complex, and of course each individual has their own reasons for wanting to end their life.
Emile Durkheim, the great French sociologist, studied suicide and determined that suicide can be one of four different types. I won't go into detail, but his study does illustrate the complex social influences behind suicide.
It doesn't always help, and make things better.
