Why are you here?

I find most people don't have a mission in life. I want to know what people really think when they are asked this question. In the grand scheme of things, "Why are you here?"

Answer:
A better question to tag along with this question would be, "If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?"

Most people find that upon examining the end of life, that most of what they've lived for all along becomes miniscule, almost pointless.

People faced with death often find themselves highly spiritual, dedicated to doing compassionate and good things for the rest of their lives. This, is regardless of their religious affiliations.

Most people, in the day to day trudge through life find "things" to identify themselves and their purpose. They become a "Wife", and a "Stockbroker", and a "Father", and so on, and then when asked the question of their purpose they use these things as a sort of justification for what they "Are", meanwhile side stepping the actual question.

Purpose is a difficult thing to explain, and ultimately the most important thing to be found in any life. A man or woman with purpose is a man or woman that is immune to all of the negativity in the world, because there is a goal, an ultimate calling in life.

Most people spend all of their lives looking.

Personally, as a buddhist I spend a great deal of my time meditating on the possibility of death, and so try to live each day as though it "could" be my last. Not so much as a nhilistic approach, but rather a reminder of the precious nature of what we have here.

My purpose, on the other hand is among the most simple things.

Money, family, big cars, big homes, all of these things get left behind when you die. Sure, I have a family, and some money, and all of the other things that we typically use to identify ourselves, but I know that given only a few hours to live, my ultimate desire would be to spread compassion to all that I could.

And so, I live that daily. One day I will be gone, and regardless of my accomplishments great or small, they will be forgotten, so for now I can only hope to humbly attempt to spread a little good karma throughout the world, and do my tiny part for the good of all. Likely unseen. Likely infinitely small.

But, every bit that I am, none-the-less.

Short of that, I want to enjoy life while I'm here, from the most dangerous roller-coaster, to the simplest breeze. I only have so many years to do it with.

Then again, I'm also currently working on trying to publish a few books, some stories I have written, and one a book that I hope might help others spiritually. But these are more akin to passions, than purposes.
I'm following my dream it took me here
Im just kinda lost. I don't have any family or relatives. they abandoned me and sometimes I think I am to walk this earth alone. I wish I could figure out why God put me here to be without others. Still trying to find out my mission.
to create positive energy and bring it back to the 'source'
As a Christian I am here to win souls and spread the good news (the word of God) and be an example of how good God is in my everyday walk.

As a mom, I am here to give him a relationship with God. Grow him up in a way that make him a gift to the world and not a cancer.

As a wife, to let my husband lead and cheer him on as he becomes the best man he can be in God and in this world.

As a woman, I am here to show grace, peace, beauty, all things that should God come here today, I'd have no doubt of where my next home is
Because the alternative is cannot be all it's cracked up to being.

I am here because I enjoy life - in all of it's facets.

I am "here" at answers.yahoo.com, so that I may learn from others and provide answers when I can.

You don't need a "mission" in life. For many people their goals and dreams will change with time as circumstances or the environment they live in do.

I am here for myself first and foremost. A very close second is my family. That may sound like a copout, but it's the truth. And it's true for a lot of people.

l'il mama - I wish you good luck in your life. I was alone for a while after a divorce, but found more happiness than I ever thought possible in an unlikely place. You will find someone - but you do need to search, they won't find you if you hide yourself away. And skip the online dating etc...
