I have social anxiety and I have to meet with an adviser at school tomorrow?
Answer:
Well first of all I'm happy that you are trying to overcome your anxiety. It may be nerve wrecking at first but it gets better.
The first thing you should do is sign in depending on how your school organizes things they usually assign students a counselor either depending on your last name or on your major.
Once you sign in there may be a long waiting time because it gets busy for walk-in days. When you get in to speak with your counselor. They usually ask you how they can help you.
If you're a freshman going into collge based on your test scores they will recommend what courses to take. If you're not a freshman then you tell them your major and they look you up in the system and based on what you've taken and what your major is they can guide you as to what your next step should be. It's a really simple process.
Good Luck with your advising appt!
The best way to get better, is first to not dwell on it. Then realize that everyone on this planet has had a shitty diaper at one time and no one is better than you. Perhaps they'd like to think they are, but they aren't. Just think of them in their underwear, thats what they say to do with stage fright.
Just blaze on through. (I have social anxiety, but nowhere as bad as yours.) You know what's polite, so just say the things required to be polite when you arrive. Afterward, you should grow somewhat more comfortable. Have a list of things you want to ask the counselor. While you're sitting in his office, let him know you prepared some questions for him. Just casually read them off to him one by one. When you're done, thank him for his time and efforts and leave. It should go fine.
