What IS it about the past that you miss ?

i fondly remember many things. i won't see or hear some of them again. but do i miss them because i liked them, or because they are now 'out of reach' except for in my memories?
if we're talking about a favorite person, in most cases i can reconnect and call them up, if i really wanted to. (sadly in some instances, i cannot.) we might re-hash those old memories together, and that makes them a little sharper, but also the shared sense of 'loss' makes them a little further away too. makes us aware of how long it's been, and how far we've come. maybe best not to call.
if it's a place, i can go back again. sadly, in most cases, the lay of the land won't be how i remembered it. there again, there's a loss of 'permanency', knowing that the picture i have in my head exists nowhere else. probably shouldn't go.
there's also the attitude that 'i love my life now'. (you know i do!) 'there's nothing to miss, i have it all.' in a sense, yes, but those old memories can reappear in strange ways, and set the mind to wondering again. wondering... if...
as the past grows more distant and mistier, the memories become less sure, more 'imagined', as in, "i imagine that's how it was". and the desire to share them with someone, anyone, will likely grow too, before all those priceless pictures and moments that made up a life are gone for good. maybe THAT'S what will be missed.
Old have memories to keep all cold away.

I miss when I had a lot of friends.
I use to have about 6 friends in all.
But now I have none I guess it's destiny.
The simplicity. I grew up in the 90's. I miss how life was so simple. When you believed in Santa and the Tooth Fairy. 5 dollars was like treasure and everyone in the class was invited to a kid's birthday party. How you could talk to a kid for 2 minutes, and they would become your best friend. When you saw the pizza guy at the door, it immediately made your day. When you could make up a crazy game by using a stick. When your imagination was so believable to you and your friends. When you told 2 sentence ghost stories, but they didnt let you sleep all night.
I miss how fun, enjoyable, and simple life was.
i miss when i was a kid....(sob)..innocen... care-free, immature, unsophisticated,unpolished, awe-struck.
Lightning bugs, lizards, rootbeer floats, municipal swimming pools with 2 much chlorine, summer baseball, recess(sniff sniff), mowing lawns, delivering papers, blue jeans and T-shirts....
now i'm depressed..
1) As a kid, being able to go to the shopping mall or the corner pizza store alone and not be coddled by an Amber Alert-obsessed population.
2) Getting a few bruises + a bloody nose on the playground and being better for it.
3) "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names may never hurt me." No political correctness, no lawsuits, no one felt the need to whine over absolutely nothing.
4) The 8 bit Nintendo. I LOVED that.
5) Bands like the Cars.
6) No endless stream of Madonna wanna-bes flashing their crotches or making sex videos. The original was bad enough.
7) No one bringing guns or drugs to school.
I miss being a kid on the night before Christmas. Oh what wondrous things we imagined. The nervous anticipation. The pure wonder at the pile under the tree. It was magical.
I would say that I miss the good times the most hanging out with friends,late nights,my street bike,my classic car a1970 cuda ,racing other cars at the mall and trying not to get caught by the cops, I was an 80' kid to. I also miss the cute girls with the leg warmers but not the big hair(lol)
