Can you fix stupid?
i.e.: Rosanne becomes Rosanadanadana
I'm not talking about talking to the guy about his behavior, I just want to know if a person like this could be fixed into someone tollerabley intelligent.

Nope, sorry. Stupidity is a fatal disease. If he was just ignorant, there might have been some hope, but stupidity incurable.

I doubt it, he's probably been that way for years. You should try telling him sometimes people don't know when they're making a fool of themselves.

No, that one is beyond salvation. Think of him as a bad joke from Saturday night live, picture that this is one of there skits, it's just sad and pathetic that there really are people out there like that. My sympathies, however, I do not know how you keep from laughing at him.
ABSOLUTELY they can! But they have to want to change (be fixed), and usually it takes a "rock bottom" situation before they will feel that want.
I'm NOT advocating violence, but people like that need some kind of "slap in the face". Maybe you should talk to them, and a boss at the same time.

stupid is as stupid does..why don't you ask your boss or someone in authority to talk to him about his behavior?..you know, to avoid any animosity later on.

but you have to approach indirect way
What ever his weakness are should be listed ,his misbehavior too,
then discuss with your superior or some colleague that you want to settle this issue permanently..
and casually invite that irritant sales man for a coffee to your table with the colleague accompanying..
You just be comfortable and let your colleague complain all the irritating traits of idiot... one after another , indirectly, without naming any one but saying i came across one man ,, who was , asshole who did... this...
and you look at the face of the idiot...
then you submit your solution..(to your colleague , ) telling him that , you will deal with him like this if you had the power. and also hint that such fellows are found in your office too..
continue this game for minimum 30 minutes and do it daily with same trio... and you will realize that ,,,idiot has started realizing.
If you feel that now the point is driven home, just give gap and observe whether any improvement is there ..
After some time again play same game now with another colleague in presence of the idot..
Slowly many will come to know this problemd and help you.
and every body will stare at the Idiot when ever he misbehaves or behaves Idiotically.

Great question, here is the bottom line. There are two groups of stupid; one is the immature group who may actually grow out of it (no guarantee), and the other group which neither recognizes nor understands how stupid they are. Sadly, there is no cure for the second group and eventually that guy could ruin your company. His stupidity can affect the smart people around him and cause a large epidimic of stupidity. Then, there will be no hope left and even if you bring in some really smart folks, you may still have to put the stupid ones down.
