Uncertainty - does anyone else wish that in some ways we lived in more predictable times when for example?
Our experiences are very different to that of our parents yet it was not that long ago that life was more predictable - a person's experience was not vastly different to that of his/her parent/grandparent..
Just a daft musing in many ways because whilst I would want to have that sense of community, support, laughter, belonging etc I am not sorry that times in many ways are easier now too such as no outside loo!
Just feeling emotional at the minute and also as a single Mum to a beautiful daughter, acutely aware of how many of us are isolated and not in touch with our communities anymore.. rather than win the lottery a real network like there used to be in my folks/grannies day would be on my wish list..
Answer:
You are right, in a relatively short period of time, a lot has changed. One's path is not set in stone anymore - there are many opportunities in life which means that people can have a very different life than their parents and grandparents did. Everything is disposable now - you don't like your life, you can change it - people can walk away from the responsibilities etc. However, it is important to realise that whilst things have changed, we sometimes put on our rose tinted glasses and look at times of old and remember only the good times. For instance, whilst you may think that the 50 and 60's for instance was better you would be wrong. This was an era where there were very few opportunities particularly for the lower classes, to be a single mother was the ultimate sin - you would have been shuned by society, there was very little support in the community for people with mental illness, teenage pregnancies, being gay etc etc. These were very unforgiving times. We have different problems today but there is a lot more help for the vulnerable in our society and much greater opportunities for anyone of any class to succeed.
Yes, I wish we could still be without electicity.
yes. Life can be simple though if you follow the principles set up in the Bible. Our lives are made up of our interpersonal relationships with others. Human nature is pretty much the same as it has always been.
Bad news, life really hasn't changed that much. If you read period lit like Shakespeare you will discover that people in the 1500 had the same problems as we do.
The same goes for Roman lit.
People are the same. Life is always life.

I'd be happy to just go back to the 80's. I didn't see anything wrong with that decade, but then again, I was a teenager and didn't have any responsibilities either. lol
Oh, and I really liked the clothes and the music! :D
People oppose change. Set back and the answer will come to you.
