Is this normal for a professor to do?
My eng. professor (he's male, i'm female) pays attention to me a lot..I dunno, I do feel uncomfortable sometimes..
He imitates my actions and such.
I think this all started when I ask him for an Aristotle's quote...I asked him to repeat it, so I could write in my notebook..
Is it normal for a professor to pay attention so much to a student like me? I mean, I'm just a regular student, nothing really special...
Answer:
This isn't a really detailed question, is this a small class? Do you sit in direct sight of him? Do you bring on his attention? No, it's not normal for a professor to pinpoint one student in a large class with random seats, but it's not really unexpected if you are in his line of sight or in a small class that he recalls you more than others. There could be many reasons including your interest in his lectures. Could there be something odd about this prof. sure could, could there not be...sure could...
Perhaps... I mean maybe you just give good answers, or you're on of the only few that actually pays attention in your class, so he sees potential. If it makes you uncomfortable or tries to further pursue anything, then drop his class and report it that day. You might want to talk to like a counselor about how you feel you're being harrassed, and maybe talk to other female students if they feel the same. Bottom line, don't take his S*
Listen to your inner self if you feel uncomfortable then pay attention to what hes doing-if you are sitting up front then sit in the middle or back-remember he may just think you are a good student but still be aware it might be something else.
So far this seems "normal" to me.. I had a teacher once (male, and so am I) who payed a lot of attention to me at first, just in the classroom. Would call on me for questions and whatnot.
This eventually escalated into him calling my phone, going out of his way to assist me in class, and seeking me out in the hallways; which was definitely not ok.
So, if he starts paying any personal attention to you outside of the classroom, I would consider telling somebody who can do something about it. It could be, however, that he just sees potential in you or genuinely likes you as a student. Maybe you pay attention better than the others or do better work.
