There's a great book by an author named Jerry Mander (no kidding!) titled "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" that talks about the potential biological and mental effects of television watching. It's really interesting, and although I still watch, I changed the way I watch TV.
I stopped watching television about four years ago. I decided to do so when all I heard on it was bad stuff. I do feel as if television sets our thoughts to negative. Since, I've stopped watching it, I've not been so negative. Also, I read alot more.
yes its bad. If you watch more than 2-3 hours a day it can affect you negatively. Those japanese cartoons for example the way they show them. ever notice how the pictures and scenes flash back and forth all the time? Its so the images stay in your memory so you want to watch more. TV and computer can make ppl aggressive, negative, stressed and depressed. keep it to a limit.
Television first kills everyone's taste level.
Second, tv makes people watch passively... last night I watched a full hour of a horrible show about missing person because I got sucked into it. The same way people get sucked into the news but don't do anything about what they see. We really don't think about things that we watch because it is presented to us though images...and everyone just kind of sits on a couch with their mouths open. Plus all that is ever on T.V is shows about other people's lives. We should probably just go out and live our own.
too much tv is bad for us.
it can make us eat more frequently than we normally would (who doesn't like popcorn when watching a movie?).
it can make children lose interest in books.
it can turn a relationship sour (who wants a spouse who spends most of the time in front of tv?).
