I know that 98% of you would abuse your power if you you couldnt suffer consequences. The human race is weak.?
Answer:
I believe the majority of the world's population would take advantage of what you just described and "stray to the dark side."
I believe that the concept of 'society' keeps people on the right path. If one feels as though they are part of a group (society), then they will follow most social norms to stay in that group. Take a truely anti-social person, for instance (one who has COMPLETELY broke from society; probably no one you have ever met). This person, is not part of society, therefore the rules of society do not apply to this person.
People are naturally selfish. Take an infant, for instance. The infant doesn't care if you have to kill 1,000 people so it can get its bottle of milk. It just cares about the milk! As the infant grows, it is taught that there are rules, and it must be pateint. Without people teaching this child the rules of society, the child would make up it's own rules (if at all!). The child may never learn that 'murder', for instance, is wrong. The child may think that murder is good because of the rewards of it (e.g. murder for food, murder can very well end a fight!).
If I could have my own way all of the time, I would have it. Does that make me weak? Compared to the average human, no. We're social animals, and history has shown us that we are better able to survive in numbers. To survive in numbers, there must be cooperation. Without cooperation, there is chaos. With chaos, there are no rules.
I wonder what I would do. I don't think I would ever go completly nuts, but I probably would as you say, start with the small things that I want, and then get worse and worse. I don't think I could ever kill someone in cold blood though, ever, no matter what. I wouldn't want that. Would I cheat, steal and lie to get more money for myself/ the man I want? Sadly, I probably would. I don't believe it is in human nature to ever do anything selflessly. This is going off topic, but even charity work is, in a sense, for ourselves. We do it to make ourselves feel good, so its more for our own benifit than for anyone else's.
Shouldn't you ask this question of certain people in the White House?
It boils down to free will. When people were given free will we gained knowledge of choices. That in turns gives us the option of doing things to get different results.
Some people would do what they wanted but humans are social creatures we would always be policing. People are good and bad. Some would do whatever they wanted - but they do anyway. Jail isn't always a deterrent to sociopaths.
