Please be totally truthful....?

If you were walking along the street and you found an envelope on the ground unopened and with no address on it completely blank and it contained £500 would you keep it or hand it in to the police.

Answer:
keep it - i mean if it was unmarked they'd not be very likely to trace the owner!
However, knowing my luck it would be part of a police sting operation or something and they catch me red handed! lol
Keep it.
You must give it to me as I could buy you something nice. x
Anyone would keep it, duh !
I would hand it in.

Although it is a blank envelope etc. I know it is not my envelope... and it is not my money.

I think it would not serve me to take the money as I feel that what goes around comes around and I would rather not have that karma to deal with!
I have lost money before and it isn't fun...especially if you need it. I think I would go to the nearest place I found it and let them know I have it. Not letting them know how much. If no one claims it and I don't need the money...I would give it to someone who did. Honest.
give it too the police of course
hand it to the police, hoping no one will claim it so i can have it!
I would keep it.. Sorry thats makes me bad but honest
yeah, i'm not gonna lie. even if there were an i.d. in it and an address it's still mine unless the person was elderly or poor looking.
keep it without a second thought
hand it to the police!

£500 is alot of money to just loose like that

and it could be part of crime or something (like for drugs!!)

so i would hand it in!!
Hand it in- it wouldn't be mine, and it could really matter to someone.
I would look for someone with an English accent. :)

Truthfully, I would turn it in. I believe that is close to $1000, and if I had lost that kind of money... I would be out food and rent for a month. That really sucks, and I would not want to do that to someone.
i know i'm sounding a little selfish, but i would keep it. heck, i could always use a free $500 .
Finders keepers ! Think of the booze and powder you could by with 500 large !!
I'd hand it in.If nobody claims it you get it anyway.

I've found a purse and a wallet full of credit cards before now and handed them into the police staion. I got a lovely letter off the lady who's purse it was saying thank you :)
Keep it.
Better I spend it than the Old Bill, would give say £100 of it to charity, just to balance the old Karma
I would turn it in. It's all about ethics. I found a $100 gift card in a department store fitting room the day after Christmas and turned that in. However, on a seperate occasion, I found a small amount of money on the ground and kept it because it was loose money that anyone could've claimed with no proof that it was theirs had I turned it in. Plus it wasn't a lot of money.
Give it to the police. If I lost the money I would hope someone would be honest enough to return it. Put yourself in that persons shoes. Do unto others.
For that amount of money, I'd keep it, but use it on my family and friends instead of myself.

If were talking a much more significant amount of money, I'd turn it in to the police
Keep it, no doubt about it. I wouldn't trust it ever to get back to its original owner. If it were a purse or wallet or something else that could be identified it would be different.
Spend it.
keep it, but wait a week to see if anyone posts that they lost this amount (aroung the time frame that it was found/area)

if you just hand it over someone else (not the owner) could take it
Most people would say keep it, but if you want a clear conscious though, you would hand it in. Depends on how jaded life had made you.
After all that could have been a pensioners life savings!
The feeling of making that pensioners day when she retrieves it from the police would be far greater reward for me that anything that i could selfishly lavish upon myself.
honestly, i'd keep it and then feel guilty.
well, as I handed into the police a platinum diamond bracelet last week, which is worth considerably more, I guess I'd hand the envelope in to them too
Hi It all depends, I know my nanas partener keeps all his money in envelope as he doesnt trust the bank and he has thousands just lying around in envelope in the house its ridicoulous, he even forgets where he has put it.
But just reading your question and looking at some other peoples answers got me thinking that about my nanas partener, even though he is loaded he keeps his money in an envelope so Im thinking it could be someone elderly that has lots it. So maybe they might need it. I would tell the police I have found it but I wouldnt hand it over to them as I dont trust them either I would tell them to let me know if they have found a person I I will write down the colour of the envelope etc to see if they match it correctly and if they dont the they are lying and if they do it has too be theres. But if a few month pass by and no takers then your doing nothing wrong in spending it.
You have done your best to get it back to the person who has lost it and no luck so you have the right to go and spend it.

But if I was in a really difficult situation where I broke and needed money then I probably would as in the end why if someone had no money will they be walking around with £500 quid in there pocket anyways its daft.
Keep it, what are they going to do with it? Is someone going to go to the police and say, "hey I lost a blank envelope with $500 cash in it". Not likely, so the rightful owner will not likely ever see it again. so your not helping the looser at all.
Hello,

(ANS) I have a moral sensibility, a moral conscience and know this money I've found isn't mine. Its someone else's hard earned cash, they will be utterly gutted when they find out its been lost.

No! I would definitely hand the cash into the police station (as naff or old fashioned as that sounds to you) or possibly the bank or post office.

If the money is recovered or returned back to the owner I would be very happy, or if the money wasn't claimed from the police after a certain amount of time I have a feeling that you can them claim it yourself if the owner isn't found??

**After all put yourself in the other persons shoes, how would you feel if that was your hard earned £500 wouldn't you like to have it back from an honest person. NOT everyone is a money grabbing cheat that only thinks of themselves first before everyone else despite what you might imagine.

Honest people do still exist in this cynical world.

The other day I was under charred at the burger joint. I spoke up. They charged me the extra two bucks. Turns out they had been making the same mistake for over an hour and I was the first person to speak up.

The other other day I was in line at the gas station waiting to pay and I noticed this twenty sitting there on the counter I said nothing just sat there. Then this ladies comes up asks me if it where mine I said no. She turns it into the cashier.

I figure in an ideal world you could leave an envelope with money sitting on the street and come back a few hours later and it would still be there.

The other other other my friend had his bank account frauded his bank closed up his account and wouldn’t let him take any of the money out for over a week. When they finally did give him access again his balance went from negative 1,200 to plus 400? He said are you sure and they said yes. I figure he didn’t push em too hard.

I probably would not pick up the envelope in the first place. If I did I would not turn it into the police unless they where right there, wouldn’t go out of my way too. Might turn it in to a restaurant or gas station if it was right out in front or I might just keep it depending
