Do you think that birth order affects the kind of person you become?

I am the first born in my family and I would have to say most of the guys I have been involved with have also been the first born. But now, I am developing a friendship with someone who is the youngest son in a fairly large ethnic family and it is already proving interesting. I don't think he is less intelligent than his siblings as recent news has suggested, but I do see where he has a tendency to be more self-centered and and needing a lot of reassurance. In other words, no one is going to make him do anything he doesn't want to until he wants to do it. Obviously, there are a lot of other factors to consider but it is interesting to postulate on!

Answer:
yes birth order effects ur personality...younger and elder both kids r pampered by there parents,,,,elder children r mostly responsible, understanding but younger ones r stubborn and they r always treated as kids no matter whats there age but they r papmpered by everyone...
Yes, I definitely think it can. My hypothesis is that it probably has a lot to do with how the parents react and adapt their child rearing skills as more kids come into the family. For instance, when we only had one child, my wife was able to take him to Gymboree and different things and had a lot of one-on-one time with him. Things are different now that we have 3 though. Not that the younger kids miss out on one-on-one time, but there is definitely less of that. But then they get the benefit of having an older brother who teaches them things. (Our middle son's language and other skills developed so much faster because he's always trying to keep up with his brother.)

So, yes...I think it has to affect a person. I don't necessarily think it affects all families in the same way though, and I think a lot has to do with the parents.
Yes I think brith order affects the kind of person you become. I don't think these are ingrained traits like the oldest will be smart because the mom gave all her smart genes to that kid I think it has more to do with the environment you are raised in. Although parents may try to act the same to all children it is difficult to truly do. The research on this would be very difficult due to many competing explanations such as nature vs. nurture. (I am an only child)
