they have to be extremely happy with themselves and their lives, you can just tell when they are successful or heading toward success, these people have a certain attitude about them. they are very open minded and love to talk about everything relevant and purposeful. They are always on their next task, they are always interested in learning more, doing, acting, going to the next level of personal development.
As far as materialistic pursuits, they may own a nice car or they may not, they have money most of the time, they have a nice place, they dress nice, they live comfortably, some can live more modestly, look at the guys who started google, they still live in their own bedroom apartment last i heard so you never know really and you can be successful at different things, dosent always have to be about a career. Could be with family etc, just being happy with yourself.
Successful dosent always mean good or everything is perfect, successful people have problems too, its just an image but i also believe they enjoy doing it. Some enjoy it, some just do it because of the pressure, it all depends on the individual.
You may be inadvertently ascribing qualities of successful people which are not statistically enforced, but seem true because of the personal prism from which you view them.
Your personal definition of success may diverge significantly from the ones who have achieved it.
Or, even if you are personally successfully, that doesn't mean that your blueprint for achieving and maintaining success is appropriate for others or is a fair definition for others.
My success is measured by the self satisfaction that I feel for achieving a goal, no matter how small or how insignificant it may seem to others.
Personal success felt internally is the key. Envious reflections from others only mirror ones own narrow perspective.
