Emotions are all fear based in my opinion.
Joy, love, & happiness are not emotions and are a result of stopping seeking.
Fear..
Love, its the answer to everything.
Why are we here?
Where do we go?

Survival instinct. Fight or flight.
Pride.
Look at our history. The main thing that most of them did was fight. Yes, there are plenty of other emotions that mankind has had since their roots like love, fear, anger, etc., but I think the one most common was pride.
Studies have shown that all (known) cultures recognize facial expressions of happiness, sadness, anger, fear, surprise, disgust, and contempt. Which, from an evolutionary perspective, would mean that Homo sapiens sapiens has had at least those emotions since we branched off from our other ancestors.
