What Type of Degree is Needed for Marital Counseling/Therapy?

Is this a MA type of program? If so, does the specilization in marital counseling come with the graduate studies? How does one begin? A bachelors in psychology or what?

Answer:
no state - not even texas - currently allows a person with only an undergraduate psychology degree work as a licensed mental health therapist or counselor (http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/counselor/lp...
Depends on the state you preside in. You should contact your nearest university and see what programs they have available. Here in Tx, you can get a BA and then become a licensed therapist. Again, this is state by state on regulations.

some states allow any minister to also be a therapist - with no training in therapy.
As others have mentioned, it differs from state to state. For starters, I would recommend looking into a four year degree from a university. Perhaps in a Psychology or Family Studies program. After that, you can see what is required for the license.
