What is the difference between sarcastic and sardonic? Can you give me one example for each?
Just want to know how many people really know the diffence. I sure didn't
Answer:
Sarcasm is usually used in jest and is clever, punny, etc. whereas the word 'sardonic' means cynical and bitter. An example of sarcasm would be a person saying that they love when people pass gas in their presence, which is probably not true. Sardonic would be someone bitterly mocking someone they don't like, which may be funny, but is said with contempt.
Sarcasm is an expression of suppressed ANGER. The word sarcasm hails from the Latin / Greek for "to bite one's lip in rage". Sarcasm intends to WOUND.
Sardonism is the expression of suppressed HATE. The word sardonic hails from a plant that, when ingested, caused convulsions of laughter and then death. It was a poison. A Sardonic expression intends to SLAY.
