How do you keep yourself motivated at work?

I have a decent job in the financial industry. I often find myself bored and unprodcutive. The thing is if I really worked very hard it would lead to some outstanding opportunities yet I don't push. How do you keep yourself motivated to perform at a high level? How do you keep your passion about work going strong?

Answer:
Firstly, remind yourself that you have chosen to take this job and stay with it. When life feels like it is happening to you, it is hard to remain enthused about it.

But on to the bigger point:
Many times in my life, I have been presented with an opportunity to really achieve my dreams. Even though it seemed that was what I really wanted, I never went for it. It has recently occurred to me that I've always been more terrified of succeeding than failing. Failing I could handle; I'd done it so many times, and while I may not like it, at least there weren't people critiquing my biggest hopes and dreams. You see, people try to stay away from doing things that they have never done before - call it an old survival instinct (back to the days when trying a new berry might have led to an untimely demise.)
But it is the people who went for it - tried the berry! - that have changed their lives and the world. You think the Beatles ever got where they were by holding back? What about your biggest hero in life?

Well, long story short, I kept repeating that to myself; almost made it my mantra. Now, I do things every day that terrify me - completely terrify me! And I couldn't be happier!! The more I put myself out there, the more amazing my life has become.
(Not bad for a girl who until 3 years ago, couldn't even order a meal for herself, eh?)

Best of luck!
I have found that if I feel good about myself and the job I am doing, I will perform well no matter if it is a mundane or interesting job.

The key is to do the work to the best of your ability. If this means learning more about what, how, and why you do the job you do, go to your supervisor and ask questions, tell him/her you are interested in learning more about the bigger picture because you are hoping someday to advance in the company.

Take evening courses in subjects that will enhance your present skills. Watch around you on the job, is there improvements that could help everyone's productivity? Make valid constructive written suggestions to the appropriate person/office.

I took a job that I started out feeling was beneath my skill and experience level, and turned it into a showcase high-level customer service job, which later landed me my dream job that I now hold.

You can do it!
I suppose all in all there's got to be something that happens in your life that flips that switch that makes you want to work hard. For myself it was being fired from a previous job, I go so mad I knew the best kind of revenge would be to do well where I've failed.
Well what you have to consider is that if you work hard you will get $$..
so working hard will enable you to obtain all of those things that you want to buy. Just think of it this way. Work hard, impress your boss, get promoted, get more money, get fancy stuff...
keep these things in mind...

hope i helped you.
