Is OCD bad?
2% of the population has OCD.
A good way to tell if you have OCD is if you have intrusive thoughts which interfere with your daily activity or if you spend more than an hour a day thinking about these intrusive thoughts.
...based on that I can very confidently say that I have OCD. However, reading about it and knowing that I CAN put my intrusive thoughts aside makes me feel a lot better.
ANYWAY, yes, OCD has had a few negative impacts on my life (such as intrusive thoughts) but I have always thought that my drive, creativity, intelligence, what makes me special came from my obsessive kind of behavior. I mean I would not trade certain aspects of my behavior for anything!
Yet, they call OCD a disease. Do you have any thoughts on this? Do you think it is all bad?
Answer:
OCD comes in various degrees of obsessiveness. From hoarding to neat-freak; from major, serious spending sprees to ruminating thoughts; from checking or counting doors, stoves, etc., etc., to depression.
If you haven't run into many problems, then you are one of thousands that probably do not require psychiatric help.
If you are one of those that repeats benefits from the manicky part of it, be sure that you are not the only one who thinks you are doing a great job.
God bless, and good luck.
Hi there, I have OCD myself and it comes and goes. Sometimes it will be bad for months then all but disappear for awhile, then come back again. I have major problems with the instrusive thoughts. I do believe it is a disease. A chemical imbalance. I have sought therapy in the past and even have taken anti anxiety meds. I guess its not all bad. I do think that it makes up part of who I am as well, but it sure can be debilitating.
i have ocd really bad on meds and that helps a llitle very little it is horrible other **** starts happening after a while you get manic and let me tell you manic and ocd do not work well together my mind races i count everything if things are not just right i have to start all over again you forget what you are doing i turn the lights on and off and count to 7 if i pass 7 i have to start over again i have been known to do this for a hour or more thank god i have a understanding hubby i take meds that would knock a person out for days and they hardly touch this disorder not diease ok. so it is overwhelming everyday i hate it my doc says i am on the ride of my life so i deal with it and thank god for every new day and pray he will take this from me and they find new meds for this alot of bullshit comes with ocd god bless you
Hello there.
I have had oCD for ten years since I was a child. I agree with you. I feel that if I trade my OCD for something else, a huge part of my life will be misplaced. OCD is a big part of my life and I hace accpeted that. There are some negative feedbacks for OCD. I mean, it's wasteless to spend hours of my day tending the needs of something to stupid and wasteless. I haven't met anyone in real life with OCD. At first, it feels like I am the only person in the world with OCD. Contrarily, millions of people across the country have OCD. I wouldn't give in to medications, surgery or therapy to rod myself of OCD. I'd rather fight it off with my own strength and concentration.
I believe that OCD isn't the most intriguing disorders of all, and it's not a disease. You cannot spread it, but you can somehow influence someone by redoing your rituals over and over in front of a watcher. Best of luck.
Peace.
