Child psychology?
a) What is the hypothesis of this experiment?
b) What is the independent variable?
c) What is the dependent variable?
Answer:
a.) The hypothesis would be under privileged youth would have higher intelligence if exposed to a richer environment (ie emphasis placed on social & cognitive skills, special school, etc.)
b.)independent variable is the situation that's controlled (ie all being under privileged children, the age group, attending special school, focusing on certain skills)
c)the dependent variable can't be controlled (ie the mental capacity of the child or it's willingness to be involved, etc.). The dependent variable changes when the controlled circumstances change.
I personally don't agree completely with the hypothesis because the problem concerning the intelligence of the poor isn't as cut & dry as social & cognitive skills. If their homes are overcrowded to begin with those 2 skills are usually higher than those with only the parents & 1 or 2 other children because they tend to pick up those skills faster by the constant interactions with others. From personal experience I've seen a lot of poor children with mental abilities affected mainly by poor nutrition/malnutrition & more exposure to metals such as lead poisioning because if you'll notice most towns with homes the poor can afford to live in are close to factories, contaminated creeks, localized flooding during strong rain storms, etc. Sadly to say even most HUD approved housing is in that area as well. All HUD does is warn you. Rarely will they let you move, penalize the home owner for it or make them fix it.
Do your own studying, I ain't doing your HNC/D for you !
Ok so you are studying psychology.
This is an assignment question.
You have been set this so it is your responsibility to find out the answers.
Don't waste our time here on this site asking us for the answers.
I could easily give them to you but what would you learn?
Zilch. Don't be lazy go and find out for yourself.
If you are too uninterested, lazy or can't be bothered looking for these answers, why are you even going into it in the first place. There is a reason why you have to find the info yourself. If you can't be bothered, then you are going into the wrong field and i'd suggest something that doesnt take too much studying. it's a very interesting question, maybe i should switch with you...
