Do you want to help people or do you want to get somewhere? You must be prepared to go to graduate school and you better have a very, very good GPA to get into any psychology program. Besides an undergraduate degree, you will need graduate school and even more if you wish to be an actual psychiatrist who can prescribe medications. That is where the money is. I would never want to go to a shrink that was doing it for the money though.
Really, to have any sort of career in psychology, you need to have a doctorate, which could take anywhere from seven to thirty-eight years depending on your study habits. And secondly, you'll only get wages if you are a social worker or a receptionist in an office. Otherwise you'll probably get salary, if you have you Psyd.
it takes a bachelors (4 years) and a Master (2 years) and in some provinces and states it is not enough to be recognized as a licenced psychologist, you would need a doctorate, which is 2 years more. All this too say that there are already too many psychology students around and they cannot find jobs after. There were so many of them that hey had to change the standard from a Masters degree to a Doctorate's degree in order to be a practising psychologist. once you get there, you will make money, in Canada it wold be around 65 or 75 thousand a year, in the states probably more. But I think it was really overrated and now there are just not enough jobs for all of them.
psychology different fields: industrial, educational, and clinical. you can choose any of these fields as you go on your major. normally, it takes about 4 years to take the course. you can get a higher salary if you continue to Masters degree or doctorate ;)
I think a degree in psychology is a good idea , what with all the soldiers and Marines returning from Iraq and also I'm sure there will be another war it would be easy to find a job with the government.
If you really want to go far in physcology you have to at least get your Masters degree, if not a PhD. I know a child physcologist that I have worked with earns around $600 dollars per hour. The wages are very good if you can get through the school, and can understand that at somtimes it can be a very frustraiting career.
My daughter spent four years in college studying psychology, and now she is a guidance counselor for a school. There are always a lot of jobs available in the psychology field. Salary $30,000 to $50,000?
