Mental Health Counselor Grad-Student, internship help?
I am beginning my graduate program in Mental Health Counseling in the Human Services at my local university. Right now, my job is not in my graduate field and I am concerned that it will start to hinder my chances of getting a job once I graduate - the whole networking and putting fillers out idea, as well as gaining actual work experience.
Eventually I will have to do an internship and would like to know of any companies or organizations in the Omaha, NE area that would be a good place to start?
I just need some ideas so I can start doing research.
I was considering Lydia House (an abused women's shelter), but not sure exactly how to go about contacting this organization.
Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed.

..The best first thing to do is to find out about the agencies in Omaha that focus in your preferred area. Then get the name of the Director and call him/her personally. Have your resume ready and explain that you want to find an internship in an agency such as theirs. Ask for an interview and offer to send your resume. TIP - They are ALWAYS looking for interns because they are smart and can contribute as they learn and they need the help.
If you are in a program, I would imagine that they have a practicum (aka externship) requirement or at least elective. This would be a good place to start, and your advisor should be able to help. If you are looking for internships APPIC.ORg lists all of the APPIC accredited internships every year. You can search these by many criteria, including Location and focus.
