Wealth does not dictate the degree on ones intelligence. I have known incredibly wealthy people who have the wit of a gnat. I know at least five highly intelligent men and women who have a life, but not the wealth you associate 'smarts' with.

Why does one have to be rich if they're smart.
Looking at some of the richest people in society, they often seem to be seriously disillusioned and unhappy. They perhaps made a discovery too late that possessions are not the be all and end all of our existence after all. they can't always be sure if their closest friends are just toadies basking in their success.
So the question could be turned on its head.
Depends what you mean by rich, i can afford my life, take care of my family and I'm having a blast with life.

Intelligence and Business Acumen are not the same quality. Quite often academic people find it difficult to make snap insitinctive decisions spending to much emphasis on analysis.
Often fly boy businessmen spend to little time on detail and come unstuck thats where people like me come in.
