I have a fear of neighborhood parties?
I am afraid of parties that take place at people's houses who live on my block. what is the "phobia" name for this?
Answer:
..Not every phobia has an official name. A phobia is a persistent, irrational fear that causes problems in behavior. So why don't we give it a name? How about "funophobia" or "casual group encounter phobia"?
In truth, I have feelings that approach the same thing. I don't like going to neighborhood parties. I don't like mingling in large groups, especially if the encounters will be superficial with lots of small talk. It truly makes me nervous, as if I'm wasting what little life I have left. I find myself checking my watch and making signals to my spouse to cut it short. Also, things will be expected of me that I don't want to give. I'm not exactly afraid but definitely wary and reluctant. You see, I'm mostly an internal, introspective person, definitely not a party animal.
So you see, Kate, I sincerely empathize with you. How do I deal with it? After I have a couple drinks, I concentrate on the food...I particularly go for potato salad.
