Just starting to become intelegent. Not to long ago, humans were still doing witch hunts!
What's intelligent? Some people know EXACTLY what they're doing when it comes to playing the piano but have no idea how to build a fortress. Some people have extremely high IQs but don't have awful emotional intelligence and couldn't sooth a crying friend for anything.
As a whole, possibly. My company pays stupid money for airlines tickets, ones I could find much cheaper on my own, their mantra is, using the corporate travel service means savings across the whole, while individuals might be more expensive.
Likening that, the world as a whole may be enlightened (I doubt it though), but individually, we can't even turn the light switch on.
I think reason dominates most of modern society, but a dumbed-down version of reason. Namely, I think the masses are collectively ignorant, but the individuals are intelligent in their own unique way. The biggest motivator, the ultimate reason it seems most people are driven by, is self-satisfaction. To a point, this is healthy in a capitalist society since it fosters competition, but when people become so focused on themselves and their own interest, they become ignorant, which is dangerous, because it opens the door for manipulation. I think this can be seen in fascist Germany, when vast swaths of the population latched on to Hitler's ideology as truth, whole and complete. Their ignorance was driven by nationalism, and a desire to repay the powers that they felt treated them unfairly after WW I. I think that those who fight ignorance within themselves and society are among the most enlightened individuals in the world.

We have no clue as to what is going on. We have a long way to go. As a whole. Though some are more enlightened than others
I also think that we are getting worse. Things were so much simpler before. There may have been problems, but at least they were simple ones.
