Is our reality just an illusion?

Some people say that our reality is all an illusion. They say that our mind is making it all up as we go, and that there really is no escape. It was the basis of the movie "The Matrix".

Answer:
I used to feel this way before I had my son. I always thought life was a dream and I would never wake up. When I was pregnant with my son and felt the first movement and kicks, this viewpoint changed. I still feel that our lives are controlled in part by a higher power, but our decisions are still made by us. That was a fantastic concept and a fabulous movie.
how do we know that anything exists beyond what our own mind creates. Maybe no-one around us is real either, we just created them. and if we discover something like the matrix going on...well who's to say we didnt create that?
Our "reality" is real inasmuch as it affects us on many levels, but another reality exists, just underneath, and besides this one, the same way visible and infrared light exists. I think once we are transformed into another type of existance maybey we'll be able to see these "other" realities
Taking a nod to the old Twilight Zone series...did you ever think that maybe we are but dust on the head of a pin of some larger race of beings...and that when we have tornadoes, hurricanes, what-have-you, it's just them, dusting off the head of the pin we live on???? That we are but a spec in a larger world??
Or...that what we call alien worlds are watching us under a microscope and studying us.ALL the time??
Now...what did I do with my aluminum foil hat? lol
You are asking if reality=truth?

Unfortunately, science has not yet exposed the full workings of the human brain, so until we can understand exactly how people perceive reality, other than through the 5 senses, this question may only be debated but not answered. It is possible that our reality is just an illusion, but the probability that our true reality exists in the same form as the one from the Matrix trilogy is highly unlikely. I would venture to say that the probably is higher that we exist in an universe that is one of many, or a "multi-verse" or "parallel universe" where time may run concurrently, but reality is different for each. On the other hand, we could also be living in a 5th dimensional universe where our human brain can only comprehend/process 3 (we live and act in 3 dimensions).

Perhaps our reality does equal truth, but the "why" could be completely different. Instead of asking if what we perceive to be reality truly is reality, ask who is creating the reality which we perceive. Perhaps out brains are powerful enough to use the existing energy in our universe to create our reality for us. In other words, we are actually creating our own reality the way we want to perceive it.
