Do you know someone who has an unusual phobia?

What is it? Where do you think it came from?

Answer:
Well, it doesn't have to come from something. Often it's an irrational fear, and the person suffering it knows that, which adds to their discomfort.

Anyway, yes, I do know someone with an unusual fear. She fears lace. Yup, doileys, tablecloths, lace trim... all of it. There's no reason, no traumatic past incident. Her analogy was that lace makes her feel as icky a if that entire lacy area were covered in spiders or some other icky crawly bug would for someone who really doesn't like them (or perhaps has a bug phobia). She goes out of her way to avoid lace (won't visit restaurants with lace tablecloths, didn't take a taxi in Japan if she could help it [the seats are covered with a lace to make it look nicer], for example).

Weirdest one I've heard of from my friends.
my friend doesnt like when peopel touch her chin. she's just weird.
My daughter is terrified of clowns. Don't know where it came from, but that is kinda weird to me.
no
yes. phobia of the color white, i have no idea where it came from.
I have nothing to fear but fear itself!

Oh and clowns.
Mold phobia. I know of someone who, after visiting an allergist and testing positive for mold, became super careful not to consume anything remotely connected to mold.
Fear of success.
well i saw on this talk show...this girl had an EXTREME fear of mustard. it was kinda funny but sad at the same time.
I know a guy who doesn't like being touched. He doesn't even shake hands when meeting people for the first time.
My friend is reallly arachniphobic (fear of spiders), and my other friend is afraid of pudding. I don't know what you would call that, would it be pudding-a-phobic? lol!
I'm afraid of escalators (for fear of falling down), blood (unexplainable), and dolls (after watching Chucky the Killer Doll when I was little).
I had to pass out surveys for a story about phobias for my school newspaper a while ago. Some of the responses were: barbie dolls (this person's sister use to chase him with barbies and hit him with them), umbrellas (because of getting struck by lightning)...some also said wasting time, driving, bears, attractive women, ugly women, looking in the mirror, odd numbers..
you name it, someone out there is afraid of it.
Two of my three brothers apparently have job-phobia.
yes i do i caint sleep neer some one cause i dont want them to hear me breathing,if i do sleep neer someone i hold my breath and start to breath real slow.it is verry sereous,if u know why i do that please let me know!where it comes from is beond me how this happened i couldnt tell you.
I have a cousin who is afraid of plant leaves when they shake even a bit. The same guy is also afraid of flowers. He does not go anywhere near flowers. Strange but true.

Another interesting thing about him is he has 6 fingers on both his hands and legs. Amazing.
I dated a woman who was afraid to eat potatoes unless all the eyes were completely removed and deeply. Her mother had taught her that they were poison and would kill her.
She was also afraid to look at a sunrise or sunset (her mother told her she would go blind), ride a bike, go in water (she couldn't swim), go anywhere by herself and a whole slew of other fears her mother dumped on her.
Yes. Meself.
I've got a ton of phobics weighing on me and it's a burden.
I've always been unusually fearful of being clean and think all the time that many things are germy and will give me an illness. Hence, we need germs, that's why hand sanitizers kill 99.9% of germs and leaving 1% of germs for our survival. Alas, 'tis true to form that public water fountains are dominated by germs and are dirtier than toilets.
Unfortuanantly, I cannot fully elaborate my phobia of germs. I did however once used my hand sanitizer to clean the toilet seat and covered it with the charmin toilet seat cover that I bought from a local store, and I use the paper napkins to open the bathroom door.
Ah, you cannot really blame me, I get very squirmy about germs..I can only blame meself. Don't be like me, just wah your hand a few times and be safe. oh..and apply lotion...water makes your skin dry. :)
Yes. I saw women on Maury Show who had fear of birds, cooton balls, and frogs.
I have a two, fear of rail road tracks... I'm not sure why but I know people who've been killed and commited suicide on them. I go crazy if I know I'm going to cross them and just thinking about it now is making me nauseas.

Second one is a fear of being on a list. I'm always afraid if I go to my college class or somewhere else that I have something written about me by my name and nobody is telling me what it is. This one is weird I know but it comes from me being investigated by the fbi after 9/11. Long story short, I was married to an arab at the time who was a pilot.
My friend is afraid of plastic silverware. We have forced her out-side with a plastic spoon. lol. It came from some poking her with a plastic fork and leaving a scratch.
AVATARS... with their beady little eyes always staring back at you.
I happen to have a fear of needle-like objects (mostly just doctors and their needles).

I'm a fairly fearless person, such things as bugs, heights, and the dark don't bother me. But as soon as that doctor/nurse comes out with a needle in hand all my logic is thrown out the window, ran over (twice) by a semi truck, shot by a gang of strangely vicious children with BB guns, gnawed on by a cougar (owned by the said children), burned to ashes, and then said ashes are tossed to the wind. Its really that bad, and I seriously consider chancing the disease over the vaccine.

This fear probably has something to do with the fact that when I was four I busted my chin open. In the emergency room the doctors had already started sewing my chin closed before I was unconscious. I don't remember pain but I do recall exactly how it felt to get stitches there.

I think it's safe to say that this is not a completely irrational fear...
Hypnotherapy is probably one of the best ways to cure a phobia.
