Does This Seem Like A Wise Thing To Do?
Any way, for awhile now, i have had minimum contact with him (kind of hard considering we currently live in the same house) and i have noticed that i feel better about myself. There is no one in my life now that seems to criticize me or question everything i do. Things seem to be looking up lately.
The question is: Is it healthy to just avoid an immediate relative if being around them makes things harder for you?
Keep in mind, talking to him about it wouldn’t do anything.
Any way, for awhil
Answer:
Seems to me you are. When a sibling is bearing down on you so much that you feel relieved out of his company? You're damn right it is a wise thing to do. Don't get me wrong. I have five siblings, and three of them I do not keep company with. For various reasons. I love them, but I cannot live by, or in their standards. It would bring me down to a poor level, and I feel I'm having a hard enough time of it without their help.
Avoiding you're brother seems a wise decision for you to have made.
You don't have to shut him out of your life bud, but you don't have to keep his belittling company either.
Be polite but keep your distance. That's my advice.
sometimes if we listen too much to what other say, it can actually poison us or bring us down. There are some people that are better left alone. if you feel better then keep doing what you are doing. it does not mean that you dont care about you brother just doing your own thing. good luck
I think you're doing the right thing. Keep your distance and if you feel better doing it, then it makes you healthier by relieving your stress level. Maybe in time he'll get the hint. Then again, maybe not.
i agree keeping your distance can help solve it temporaraly but sooner or later you need to do something more. be patient soon it will come to his mind that his actions afend others and he just might come around and realize a apolagy is needed on his part. if he doesnt then someone needs to step up and let him know that he needs to keep his comments to himself because sometimes thats just the best thing to do.
