How do I become more decisive?
I takes forever for me to make up my mind and then, I usually end up changing it and end up back at square one. Driving (should I park here or not?), clothes (what colour?), gifts (this or that?) etc.
How do I become more decisive and know I'm making the right choice?
Answer:
I think that the first step for you would be to decide upon a nice nickname for you to display here in the FunQA.coms community. (I noticed that you do not have a nickname, instead, you just spelled «name» - as in: I'll get back to that some other time)
Anyway, here is what you should do:
Promise yourself that you'll always make a quick decision and stick to it even if it wasn't the best decision.
So, give yourself five seconds to decide where to park, and stick to that even if you end up knowing that there was a better parking space. And so on - apply this to choosing your clothes, gifts, etc.
But of course, do not apply this to BIG decisions such as "which school should I go to?" as such matters need more thinking and more time for all of us.
Make a decision and stick with it. A bad decision can usually be fixed, but the time lost by indecision you can never get back. Remember that. It will help. Just make a decision, any decision, and then let it go.
You need PERSPECTIVE , because you seem to be thinking very hard on what is the right decision in situations where there simply isn't no single best decision .
That will come with time , when you experience loss because of hesitating before taking the right course , you will instinctively grow more decisive .
However if you continue to worry only about trivial things , you will never get incentive to develop decisiveness .
There are some things that don't matter a whole lot and are just a matter of preference, like where you park, what color of clothes etc.
I've spent a long time figuring out how to be more decisive--and it is still a challenge. I find the most helpful thing for me is to decide what I like. I discover that most other people do what they do because they like it, or sometimes they've found a really smart/economic way to do things, or because they've been taught that way.
First, figure out who you are and what you believe in. And then see if your decisions support your beliefs. And you will find that some do, some don't, and some just don't matter.
Relax, as you figure yourself out, you can get more decisive...Take every opportunity to learn something new, to do something better. My personal goal is to make today better than yesterday. I figure as long as I keep learning and getting better, I'm doing fine.
Good luck!
what does it matter whether it is right or wrong? you are here on earth to learn, so learn. once a decision is made, don't change it, but be willing to accept the responsibility which comes with it, regardless of whether it is the right decision or not, as well as the consequences which will ultimately follow.
where people go wrong is they refuse to take responsibility for their actions and the consequences those actions bring forth.
if there is a good decision, there are good consequences, and vice versa. they may not even occur in easily defined time frames. one causes the other, but it may take a day, a year, a lifetime, to know the consequences.
This is going to sound really crass, and horrible, and cliched...but just do it. Just make some desicions and try as hard as you can to not think about if you made the right choice.
Having battled a tendency toward indecisiveness all my life, here are some strategies that help me. MAKE a decision (any decision) and stick to it. If it's bad fix it and learn from it. Rank the importance of the decision (if you make a bad decision about where to have lunch, it IS just lunch after all!) Spend more time on the important ones. Gift certificates help with the gift thing (some decisions can be removed from your life!) And if you truly don't care about something (like where to have lunch) let some one else involved make that decision! Good luck!
(and keep deciding! it gets easier with practice!)
Trust your judgment and take responsibility for your choices. This is not suppose to be scary, most of the time, several choices will work out fine. Other times, there is no really "right" choice. Stay in touch with your heart and take a leap. It's exciting.
Who usually does the decision for you? You can either take a psychology workshop regarding this topic or find a gf /bf who can "pick" for you
